βAn abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behaviour.β - Viktor Frankl
Hi, I'm Andrew (he/him/his) and I am a LCSW. I'm an animal lover and dad to a feisty senior dog. I enjoy kickboxing, cooking, and video games.
I enjoy working with people struggling with trauma, major life changes, and those trying to find out who they are. I have experience working with Veterans, those struggling with addiction, and family/friends who find themselves as caregivers for another. Whatever you're struggling with, I have found that every client has something beautiful and exciting to discover within them.
When providing therapy, I believe strongly in individualizing care. I utilize a variety of therapy models including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, existential and client centered therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, attachment theory, and trauma informed care.
Therapy is a collaborative process that does not have a "one size fits all" approach. For some, a firm guiding hand creates safety and a sense of direction. For others, the opportunity to take the reigns opens up new possibilities. Therapy involves ongoing reevaluation of what is helpful. I encourage my clients to give feedback and not be afraid to tell me when something isn't working.
I believe that there is no limit to how much we can grow, and therefore no limit to what we can overcome. I believe that therapy should be as much about celebrating and learning from successes as it is about breaking down and taking steps to address problems. I believe that humor has incredible healing properties.
Starting therapy can be anxiety inducing, which is why I am a firm believer in transparency. I encourage questions and feedback at all times. Early on I will focus on asking you questions that help me understand what brought you to therapy and the background you bring with you. When I have an idea of how I might best help you, I will give you my thoughts and ask you to share yours. From there, therapy sessions may be more focused on practicing skills, exploring through discussion and reflection, or something else entirely.
